The Honorable Diane Reynolds
In a recent post, I profiled a fellow with a big-time job in a big city. He was a bit older than most of the people at Chorus and he had held onto his job for a long time. At least, that’s what he told me. But when I talked to him, he had recently been laid off. He didn’t like being unemployed and he sure as hell didn’t like being without health insurance.
He was willing to give up a lot for health care. I don’t want to get too political here, but I could have listed things that I think have gone wrong and made things worse. I could have listed all the ways that so many people have gone over the cliff and failed to create a safety net for themselves. But instead I want to focus on a woman I recently met.
I’ve known Diane Reynolds for years and years. You might remember her, too. I’m talking about Diane Reynolds, the state Democratic Party chair. She has been a big part of the party since the beginning. Diane recently underwent a surgery that necessitated a week-long hospital stay. During that time, she was released from the hospital into the care of family members, and she was left with bills that she couldn’t afford to pay. So I went looking for someone to help her. I asked the party for assistance and a friend put me in touch with Diane. She was really grateful and so was I.
